There is a short list of players in the MAGVerse who were so good that the community couldn’t fully accept it. Protoman is at the top of that list.

The accusations of cheating weren’t an insult — they were a compliment wearing the wrong clothes. When players watch someone operate at a level that doesn’t fit their understanding of what’s possible, cheating is the explanation that requires the least imagination. Protoman required more imagination than most people had. The positioning, the timing, the mechanical precision, the ability to read an engagement before it fully developed and be in the right place before anyone else knew where the right place was — it wasn’t a hack. It was just him. Some players are built differently and Protoman was built in a category that had very few members.

Then there’s the Dark Flock.

The most famous unit battle in MAG history. 3C versus RAVEN’s premier clan in an engagement that the community still reconstructs, still debates, and still measures other organized PvP against. Protoman didn’t just participate — he coordinated the offensive that made it a demolition rather than a contest. The tactical architecture of what 3C did that day had his fingerprints on it in ways that raised a question the community has been arguing about ever since.

Was Sithis the leader of 3C — or was Protoman?

The honest answer is probably that 3C needed both of them to be what it was. Sithis built the roster. Protoman was the reason the roster performed at its ceiling. The title belonged to one of them. The outcomes belonged to the other.
